2011 Sportsman of the Year Award

*RESULTS*

The Beef Stew Tournament, the annual final event on the FRCC Golf Calendar, was held on Saturday, October 29th.  This fun scramble tournament is often played in the cool conditions of late-October, but this year’s tournament featured especially inclement weather in the forecast.  In an effort to avoid wind-driven rain and possible early-season snow, the event was shortened to 9 holes.  Half of the field played the front nine holes, while the other half played the back nine.  Thankfully, participants were already enjoying beef stew meals and picking out their prizes when the weather conditions took a turn for the worse.

The front nine low net score was posted by John Carroll, Tom Carroll, Larry Audino, and Ed Nasser, with 31(-4).  Second place honors went to the team of Paul Silva, Bill Fonseca, Mike Cook, and Charlie Hodgate, who finished a mere 1/2 shot behind the leaders.  Third place was awarded to John Burke, Roger Lussier, Gary Miclette, and Randy Lucciola.

Corey Huck, Mark Huck, Joe Baptista, and Kevin Harding performed the best of the back nine golfers, posting a net 29.5(-5.5).  A stroke off the pace and finishing alone in second place was Al DuBreuil, John DaCunha, Dan Pereira, and Gerry Delisle.  Third place on the back nine was captured by the team of Craig Souza, Tony Cordiero, Al Macomber, and Larry Couto.

The 2nd annual "Tom Tetrault Sportsman of the Year" award was also announced after play.  The award is given annually to a supportive and active Fall River Country Club member who best exemplifies Tom’s honesty, integrity, contributions to, and love of the game of golf and the Fall River Country Club.  David Byrne won the inaugural award last year.  This season’s winner is Bob Souza, a stalwart of FRCC and nearly all the Club’s tournaments and events for decades.  Congratulations Mr. Souza!  A new permanent plaque has been created and resides adjacent to the Pro Shop entrance.

Congratulations to our 2011 Beef Stew Tournament co-champions and 2011 "Sportsman of the Year" Bob Souza!  Thank you to all of the 101 golfers who braved adverse conditions and participated in the tournament.
