Congratulations to Cindy DeCosta and her guest Sue Sylvia (New Bedford CC) for winning the Fall River Country Club 2009 Ladies Invitational! They met the team of Fernanda Viveiros and Leony Hartig (Pawtucket CC) in the Championship Round. Cindy and Sue slipped past the tandem of Fernanda and Leony on the first sudden death playoff hole. Cindy scored a Net birdie on #1 after blasting her first two shots less than 10 feet from the green, which plays as a Par 5 for ladies.
Cindy and Sue won the First Division title over Vivian Bertrand and her partner Barbara Charles (Segregansett CC) on the strength of a great first day 5.5 points. Vivian and Barbara did not lose a match, but were outscored in the points format. The consolation round title for the First Division was captured by Dottie Fierra and Karen Marcos (Segregansett CC) with Net 34 and a match of cards (5 holes!) over Cindy Shearstone and Judy Duarte (Segregansett CC).
Fernanda and Leony piled up 6.5 points, but won the Second Division title by a mere 1/2 point. Finishing just shy of advancing to the Final were Pat Eagan and partner Kerry Ellis (Montaup CC). The consolation round title for the Second Division was easily taken when Gerry Silva and Cheryl Fonseca posted a Net 32, including a near hole in one on #8 by Gerry! Yes, she made the putt...
